Dog Daze of Summer

This morning, 9/14, I had my first Theatre History class.  I dreaded it because I have had both theatre history and art history in years past.  But from the start, it was clear this course is very different.  The professor immediately engaged the class in a discussion when he had us introduce ourselves.  We have very different backgrounds and life experience will give us an advantage in an acting career.  There are people who came from biomedicine, engineering, economics, wrestling, right out of college, businessmen, etc.

Although the course requires A Lot of reading and writing, there is a strong performance element.  Just like we all know, or have at least heard of, Friends, Seinfeld, I Love Lucy and MASH, there are certain stories we need to know in the world of theatre.  We're starting with Ancient Greek tragedy.

One 10-20 minute production per week is required.  We must be in at least two of them.  The professor guided us to think as though we are performing for investors to fund our production.  What would we do with more resources and more time?

After class, I ran around NYC with my friend, Adeline.

We saw a squirrel in Washington Square Park.  I think it looks like a California Gray, but the white tummy makes it even cuter.  The squirrels here have no fear, and they will take food from tourists!

It was nice to have lunch in the park.  It's still very warm in New York.  Apparently, the weather will turn quickly next month!

This little girl, Mila, stopped by to say, Hi.  She was all wiggle and she gave me French Kisses!  Whoa ;-)  ....Wait... hey Mila.... teach those Wall Street guys what to do ;-)

How cute is this little girl?!  I miss my dogs!

It was time to head over to Drama Book Shop.  I found all the plays I needed.  And we got to see another dog!

Meet Chester!

THE DOG IS REAL
He will not do a song and dance to prove it

HELLO HUMAN PERSON
My name is Chester and I am a 9 year old German Spitz who is friendly and loves to sleep.  You may pet me and take my picture.  I am not sick.  I just really love sleeping.  No, I am not for sale.  Yes, I belong to someone in the shop and yes, he knows that I'm cute and well behaved.  We hear it every day.  How did I get up here?  I took an imaginary elevator.  If you don't see me around, it's because I wanted to stay home.  I have not died.  I'm very healthy.
Back through Time Square

I can't get over how fascinating I find it that this McDonald's looks like a theatre.  I have not been in yet.  Maybe I'll go in one day soon, just because the outside is so unique.

Theatres are everywhere!  Broadway always runs between 7th and 8th except when it doesn't ;-)

In the 30's Streets, it runs between 6th and 7th-- helpful to remember if you are in a hurry!  Broadway adds an extra city block to the walk.

A little parking meter maid car made it into this photo.  NYPD uses Smart Cars.  They are fun to see-- so little!  And I don't have to worry about getting a ticket.  (FedEx got a ticket the other day.  I thought delivery trucks could park anywhere).

I wrote a paper about these Smart Cars back in 2004 for a marketing class.  The cage around the car is shaped like a walnut.  These vehicles are much smaller than my Honda, yet they cost about the same.

It was fun to see these ads for Sir Paul McCartney's upcoming show!  And this newsstand reminded me of Frasier... but Frasier takes place in Seattle, not New York.  These newsstands also make me think of the book, A Cricket in Time Square.  I read that book in elementary school.  It would be great to read again, just for fun, once I set aside some time.

Each day, I feel rather like Dorothy.  There is a guy from Kansas in my class, and there are always things to remind us, we're not in Kansas anymore.

I stayed in a Crowne Plaza Hotel in Edinburgh-- rather glamorous, dah-ling.  This one looks like something right out of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory!

HUGS and KISSES XOXO
